What are meta tags? Why are they important?

A meta tag is a piece of scritp in your sites header html that tells search engines:

1. The name of your site  or page.
2. Your sites discription
3. Key words, word peopel typeing to search engines to find your site.

1a. The name of your site is your sites branding. It is always important that people know who you are and where to find you. There is nothing worse than bookmarking a site and not being able to find it again because they didn't have thier name in thier page tag. I don't know about you but I personally habitulaly delete un named book marks. My attiude is that I can't be missing much if they don't even have thier site together enought to have their name in thier bookmarks. You will be suprised how many people feel the same way.

2a. Your site discription is the first thing most people see about your site. You never get a second chance to make a firt impression. It will mean the difference between a person picking your site or someone elses. Think of it as the bait on your hook. They have to bite before you can reel them in. No bite on sale!

3a. Key words, the words and or phrases peopel will type in to find your particular product or services. In two to four words what will bring them to you. One word keywords a too general you will find yourself listed back on page 10,212 if you are not specific about what you have to offer.
